I have come to the point in my walking career where it is necessary to have assistance. I have tried several dealers for getting off the shelf canes, all of which are too short. So a little research into ordering a cane happened, again most of which are a few inches shy of ideal height. A little more research on sites such as instructables.com, and I came to the conclusion that with my father's wood shop, I should be able to make a reasonable facsimile on my own.
Enter a nice stick I found while walking along the shore with my girlfriend.
First step was to measure the length and mark, then cut.
Next, using the belt sander, I removed the branches protruding, and any remaining bark.
Next I used some coarse and then fine sandpaper by hand.
Then found some varnish and gave it a few coats
Then I picked up cane ends from a drug store and attached.
Over the next week, I'll be making a handle as I've found that just the top of this makes my hand sore after a while of walking around with it.
